DarkRP - Questions (New Player)

Before reading this, please understand that I'm very new to Garry's mod. So yeah, today I joined a "DarkRP" server as it was the most popular gamemode. When I spawned in I had no clue what I was supposed to do. Everything wasn't clear so it took a while to figure out what was going on. Eventually I figured out how to change roles. I decided to pick a criminal role (gangster). Now that I was a gangster I thought I could commit crimes and the police players will hunt me down and either throw me in jail or kill me. But no, I shot a person who was kinda rude to me and then about a minute later the admin teleported me to his position and interrogated me to ask why I killed the person. I replied and said "I'm a gangster... they kill people don't they?" and then they said no and that they were banning me. Soooo yeah. Is this just a bad admin or was I breaking an unspoken rule? I only killed one person and I was just trying to stay in character. Also is there any helpful guides which cover how exactly DarkRP works? Nothing is clear in that game for a new player and I think I completely misunderstood it.

Way to make NPCs see further?

I like doing realistic war scenarios but a problem I've faced on larger maps is that NPCs don't see far enough and will often just stand still allowing you to kill them. Is there a workshop mod, code, or anything I could do to change that?
